Perfect Fly Mayfly Patterns:
"Nb" (Bottom Nymph) Is the "Perfect Fly"
symbol for a pattern representing the
nymph prior to the time the mayfly begins
to emerge. We have 6 basic patterns:
"Perfect Swimmer"
"Perfect Super Swimmer Nymph"
"Perfect Crawler Nymph"
"Perfect Super Crawler Nymph"
"Perfect Clinger Nymph"
"Perfect Burrower"

"Ne"
(Emerging Nymph) is the Perfect
Fly symbol for a pattern representing the
nymph during the time it is about to
emerge. It has its wings unfolding and its
body partially out of the shuck. We have
one basic pattern:
"Perfect Emerger".

"Nt" (Nymph with a Trailing Shuck) is the
Perfect Fly symbol for a pattern
representing the nymph that is almost a
dun, with its shuck still hanging on. We
have two basic patterns:
"Perfect TS Emerger"
"Perfect Super TS Emerger"

"D"
(Dun) is the Perfect Fly symbol for a
pattern representing the dun. We have
two basic patterns:
"Perfect Dun"
"Perfect Drake"

"S"
(Spinner) is the Perfect Fly symbol
for a pattern representing the spinner.
We have two basic patterns:
"Perfect Spinner"
"Perfect Drake Spinner"

"Ea"
(Emerging Adult) A few mayflies
emerge into duns on the bottom or
somewhere between the surface and the
bottom. These emerging duns look quite
different from the dun after its wings
have dried and it has flown away to the
bushes along the banks. The "Perfect
Wet Dun", represents those duns that
emerge below the surface skim and
those spinners that dive to the bottom to
deposit their eggs.
"Perfect Wet Dun"

Number of Patterns:
For each "M" number, there are up to six
different basic "Perfect Fly" patterns
representing the different stages of life
of that specie or group of very similar
species. Although that sounds like a lot
of patterns, many of them are just
different recipes of the same basic
pattern usually with only a color variation.
By varying the color of the materials
used and the hook sizes,these

mayfly that trout feed on in the United
States in all the stages of life that trout
are involved with.
